Vaccination to begin on January 16; Initially 30 million healthcare and frontline workers will get vaccinated
Dry run at 4,895 sites in 615 districts of 33 states / union territories, Corona vaccine will be available here
Vaccination is starting from 16 January to prevent coronavirus in India. Phase-1 will cover 3 crore healthcare and frontline workers. After that, the vaccine will be applied to 27 crore people above 50 years of age and under 50 years of high risk. That is, by August 2021, the preparation list of 300 million people is ready to be vaccinated.
According to a new report by SBI Research, if the government has to meet its target, then 13 lakh people will have to be vaccinated every day. This will be a big challenge because not many people have been vaccinated one day except in China. China also has only two days of data available, in which it vaccinated 22.5 lakh people a day and vaccinated about 4.5 million people in two days. Talking about other countries, 5.37 lakh people are being vaccinated every day in America and 4.72 lakh people in UK.
How will India face this challenge?
The role of the vaccinator is going to be prominent in the entire process of vaccination. Trainers were trained at the national level, in which 2,360 master trainers were prepared. This included state immunization officers, cold chain officials, development partners and others.
About 61,000 program managers, 2 lakh vaccinators and 3.7 lakh other members of the vaccination team have been trained. They have been trained at the state, district and block levels. A dry run was conducted on 4,895 sites in 615 districts in 33 states / UTs on Friday. According to the plan so far, 100 to 200 people will be vaccinated at each site.
Initially the availability of the vaccine is going to be limited. The Serum Institute of India is set to provide around 100 million doses of Oxford / AstraZeneca. Bharat Biotech will provide the same dose of Covaxin. Both companies have developed a new facility to manufacture the Corona vaccine, which will start functioning in March or April. This will also increase their production capacity and availability of vaccine.
Meanwhile, other vaccine candidates (including Zydus Cadila’s vaccine) are also expected to be approved after March. That is, the availability of vaccine will increase after March and April, as well as the speed of vaccination. With this, the target of vaccinating 300 million people by August 2021 can be met.
How much will the government cost?
There is no clarity on the price yet. If the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla, believes, then the government will get his vaccine for between $ 3 or 220 to 250 rupees. At the same time, the price of other vaccines has not been decided yet.
Even after this, SBI Research has reported the cost of applying the vaccine at Rs 100 to 150 per person. That means the government may have to spend 21 thousand to 27 thousand crore rupees in vaccination of 30 crore people.
Similarly, it will cost 35 to 45 thousand crores to vaccinate the remaining 50 crore population by December -2022. Even then, the expenditure on corona vaccination is going to be less than 0.75% of the country’s GDP.
