New Delhi:

India’s first fifth-generation ambulance with 5G network capability was launched on Saturday. It offers real time patient monitoring from remote location and video call facility with fast internet connection and much more. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services at the India Mobile Congress in Delhi on Saturday. 5G services started with Bharti Airtel, India’s number 2 operator, which is currently serving eight cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi and Bengaluru.

Reliance Jio, the country’s largest subscriber company, is set to launch its services in four metros this month, while third operator Vodafone Idea Ltd has not yet indicated any definite time frame for its 5G rollout.

Shankar Srinivasan of Cisco Systems told NewsBust, “All the convenience of a connected ambulance is nothing new. The fundamental difference is that the convenience that is inside an ambulance has now been enhanced. So first you can use a defibrillator (a machine that uses an electric current to make someone’s heartbeat). You can’t install a patient monitoring system. At most you can set up a WhatsApp call and the doctor can see the patient with a mobile video. Can. All that has changed now.”

Srinivasan further explained, “With 5G you can load an entire ambulance with medical equipment, be it injection syringes, pumps or ECG machines or ventilators, etc., and they are all connected so that the remote doctor can deliver the patient in real time. The ability to treat and deliver the right treatment. The ability to send patient data at a very high speed in real time with minimal latency. This is the fundamental difference between any kind of connected ambulance vs 5G connected ambulance. “

When asked whether cost would be a big factor, Srinivasan said it is a question of cost versus life and the cost can be managed, as it will benefit more people.

He said, “Cost is a factor, but then it is a cost versus life question. It is a very difficult tradeoff. We have designed it as a whole ICU on wheels. You can do it in a remote district headquarters or a tier 3 village or And, you can have multiple people who are doing their medical checkups frequently. Moving one person from one part of the city to another, so that you realize that cost on a large number of people So cost is something that can be managed.”

Allows for full-length high-quality video or movie download to a mobile device in a matter of seconds (even in congested areas), in addition to powering an ultra-low latency connection. 5G could enable other solutions such as e-health, connected vehicles, immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, life-saving use cases and advanced mobile cloud gaming.
