Pakistan wants to play in Chennai and Kolkata against the ODI Cricket World Cup to be held in October-November this year. News agency PTI has given this news quoting Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources.
The World Cup may start from October 5 and 12 venues have been shortlisted for it. These include Chennai and Kolkata as well. The remaining 10 venues are Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Rajkot, Bengaluru, Delhi, Indore, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Dharamshala. BCCI wants 1-1 center of North and South
In this regard, a BCCI official has told NewsBust India on condition of anonymity that the Indian Board also wants Pakistan’s World Cup matches to be held in two or three cities only. BCCI can select a center in North and a center in South for this. That is, an agreement is expected between BCCI and PCB on the name of Chennai. Yes, Kolkata is in Eastern India. If the board selects a center from North itself, then Delhi’s chances may increase.
There is a tussle over the Asia Cup
There is currently a tussle between the BCCI and the PCB over the scheduling of the Asia Cup. BCCI has made it clear that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. He wants the Asia Cup to be held at a neutral venue. On the other hand PCB says that if the Asia Cup is shifted outside Pakistan then it can boycott the Asia Cup.
Pakistan withdraws from World Cup boycott
Amidst the ongoing tussle over the Asia Cup, there was news from Pakistan that if the Indian team does not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup, then the Pakistani team may also refuse to come to India for the World Cup. However, Pakistan soon realized that it was in no position to face a confrontation with India on this issue. Then PCB officials started saying that there has never been talk of boycotting the World Cup from their side.
The last time Pakistan came to Eden Gardens in 2016
The Pakistan team last played at Eden Gardens in 2016 during the T20 World Cup. Pakistan was matched against India. In this India won by 6 wickets.
