Gujarat Municipal Corporation Election Results 2021: Results of election of six municipal corporations of Gujarat will be released today. A total of 144 wards of Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar municipal corporations were voted on Sunday. A release issued by the State Election Commission said that 46.1 percent voters cast their votes. According to the final figures released by the Commission, Ahmedabad recorded the lowest turnout of 42.5 percent and Jamnagar 53.4 percent. Apart from this, there was 50.7 percent polling in Rajkot, 49.5 percent in Bhavnagar, 47.8 percent in Vadodara and 47.1 percent in Surat. According to the release, out of a total of 1.14 crore registered voters in six cities, 52.83 lakh people voted on Sunday.
The main contest in these elections is between the BJP and the main opposition Congress. The BJP has ruled these six municipal corporations for the last several terms. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that it will be an effective alternative to the BJP and the Congress, while Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is contesting the local body elections for the first time.
