Google is accused of misusing Android’s dominance.

Google vs CCI: Global tech company Google said on Friday that it is reviewing the decision after the Supreme Court refused to stay the order of the Competition Commission of India. It will cooperate with the Competition Commission i.e. Competition Commission of India (CCI). A Google spokesperson said that the company is reviewing Thursday’s decision of the Supreme Court (SC). He said, ‘This judgment is limited to seeking interim relief and no judgment has been pronounced on the merits of our appeal.’

Google had appealed to the Supreme Court for not giving interim relief from the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal on the penalty imposed by the CCI for non-compliance with the Competition Standards. But there has been no relief from there either. The competition regulator had imposed a fine of Rs 1,337 crore on American company Google for abusing the dominance achieved through Android in the mobile phone ecosystem. The appeal for interim relief against this order was turned down by the NCLAT.
A Google spokesperson said that the Android ecosystem has greatly benefited Indian consumers and phone manufacturers and has played a key role in India’s digital transformation. He said, ‘We are committed to our users and partners and will cooperate with the CCI as per our appeal.’
Google has been given a week’s time by a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud to deposit 10 per cent of the fine of Rs 1,337 crore as per the CCI order.
