Almost one-third of the matches in the Women’s Premier League have been completed. Many cricket experts believed that this league would bring a significant change in women’s cricket. Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Alyssa Healy also believes the same, who termed the league as a gamechanger even before it started. What effect the league will have on women’s cricket is a matter of future. First let’s see what trends were seen in the league in the last one week (matches till Friday)…
Australia’s Lanning top run scorer, India’s Harleen in sixth place
The league’s top run scorer is Australia captain Mag Lanning, who has scored 185 runs in 3 matches. Similarly, in the list of highest run-scorers in the league, Indian players are lagging behind in the tournaments played so far. Harleen Deol is the highest run scorer in the league. He has scored 113 runs in 3 matches at a strike rate of 143. However, there is no Indian among the top-5 run-scorers in the league.
Harleen is on the sixth position in this list. There are only 3 Indians in the top-10 list. Shefali Verma is in 7th place with 103 runs and Jemimah Rodrigues is in 10th place. Shaika Ishaq of Mumbai Indians is currently wearing the Purple Cap with 9 wickets in the league. Apart from Ishaq, there is no Indian in the top-10 who took the most wickets.
One-sided matches are being held like 2008 IPL
Women’s Premier League is also seeing one-sided matches like the first season of IPL. So far, in total 8 matches, the match between Gujarat and UP could not be seen as one sided. In this match, Grace Harris won UP in the last over. The first match of the league was lost by Gujarat by 143 runs. In three out of eight matches, the target has been chased in only 15 overs. 3 out of 4 times the team chasing a score of 200+ has lost by a margin of 40+ runs.
Mumbai Indians dominate the league, taking all 10 wickets of the opposing team in all three matches
According to statistics, the most powerful team of this league is Mumbai Indians. No team has been able to play full 20 overs against Mumbai Indians so far. In the first match of the league, Mumbai bowled out Gujarat Giants for 64 in 15.1 overs. After this, in the second match, he scored 155 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai.
However, she too could last only 18.4 overs in front of Harmanpreet Kaur’s bowlers. Mumbai’s third match was against Delhi Capitals, riding on two consecutive wins. Delhi had crossed the figure of 200+ in 20 overs in both their matches before landing against Mumbai, but Mumbai’s bowling was heavy on Delhi. Mumbai bowlers bowled out Delhi for only 105 in 18 overs.
Big Bash took 3 seasons for 200+ runs
The Women’s Premier League is proving to be better than other leagues in the franchise league. The first season of the Women’s Big Bash League did not see a single 200+ score. It took three seasons for the Big Bash to reach the first 200+ score. Sydney touched a score of 206 in the 32nd match of the third season, while Mumbai scored 207 runs in the first match of the Women’s Premier League itself. Also, two scores of Delhi Capitals are included in the top-5 in the history of women’s league cricket.
Highest total in women’s league history Sydney Sixers – 242/4 | Delhi Capitals-223/2 | Delhi Capitals-211/4 | Melbourne Renegades – 207/4 | Mumbai Indians-207/5
