Aadhaar-PAN Linking Process
- First of all go to the Income Tax website.
- Here click on Aadhaar link in Quick link.
- Enter PAN and Aadhaar number and click on validate.
- A link to visit the NSDL website will appear for payment.
- In CHALLAN NO./ITNS 280, click on Proceed.
- Select Tax Applicable (0021) Income Tax (Other than Companies).
- In the Type of Payment (500) Other Receipts have to be selected.
- Two options will be available in mode of payment, net banking and debit card.
- You can choose any of the two options as per your convenience.
- Enter your PAN card number in Permanent Account Number.
- Select 2023-2024 in the assessment year.
- Enter any of your address in the address field.
- Now enter the captcha code and click on proceed.
- After clicking on Proceed, you will see your entered information on the screen.
- After checking the information, tick I Agree, click on Submit to the Bank.
- If there is any discrepancy in the details entered by you, then click on edit.
- Now fill Rs 1000 in Others by choosing Net Banking or Debit Card option.
- You will get a PDF after the transaction is complete. Keep this download with you.
- It will take 4-5 days for this payment to be updated.

- After 4-5 days, you will have to click on the link again on the Income Tax website on the basis of Aadhaar.
- Enter the PAN number and Aadhaar number and click on validate.
- If your payment has been updated then the option of continue will appear on the screen.
- Click on continue and enter name and mobile number as per Aadhaar card.
- Proceed further by ticking on I Agree. Now you will get an OTP.
- Enter OTP and click on validate. Now a pop up window will open.
- It will be written in the pop up that your request for Aadhaar PAN linking has been sent to UIDAI for validation.
- After validation, your PAN and Aadhaar will be linked. You can check its status on the Income Tax website.
Penalty up to Rs 10,000
If the PAN card is inactive, such people will not be allowed to open mutual fund or stock account. Apart from this, if you use this PAN card as a document anywhere, there may be heavy fines. Under Section 272B of the Income Tax Act 1961, you can be fined up to Rs 10,000.
Relief given to these PAN card holders
Under the Income Tax Act 1961, some people have been exempted from linking PAN with Aadhaar. This category includes people of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya, non-residents, people of 80 years or more and foreign nationals.
