Deendayal Upadhyay, the founder member of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, was born on this day in 1916. After completing his college studies, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1937. In 1951, when Shyamaprasad Mukherjee formed the Bharatiya Jana Sangh with the help of the Sangh, the Sangh sent Upadhyay to politics to see its work. On 10 February 1968, Deendayal boarded the Sealdah Express to travel from Lucknow to Patna. The train reached Mughalsarai station at around 2 pm, but Deendayal Upadhyay was not in it. His body was found lying near the station. The cause of his death remains a mystery even today.
