Ashadh, on the day of Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha, Dev sleeps and on this Kartik, wakes up on the day of Shukla Paksha Ekadashi. That is why it is called Devotthan (Dev-Uthi) Ekadashi. It is said that on this day Lord Vishnu, who was asleep in Kshirsagar, woke up after four months. It is prohibited to conduct vivahadi Manglik functions in the four months of the sleeping period of Vishnu. All auspicious and auspicious works are started from this Ekadashi only after the awakening of Hari.
