Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shelly Oberoi said that the previous governments of MCD have been targeted. The mayor said that the previous governments did not even conduct a census, let alone work to rid Delhiites of stray animals. There are about 6 lakh stray dogs in Delhi. No census has been done in the last 7 years. To make dog sterilization more effective, RWAs and dog lovers will be included in the scheme. Kejriwal government will fulfill every promise. A world-class model will be implemented to rid Delhi of stray animals.

Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shaili Oberoi addressed an important press conference at Civic Center today on the issue of stray animals in the city. He said that he is worried about the Vasant Kunj incident. As soon as he came to know about this incident, he called an emergency meeting of the officers.
During the meetings, several flaws in the current system including lack of infrastructure for NGOs have come to the fore. There are about 6 lakh stray dogs in Delhi. No census has been done in the last 7-8 years. Presently there are 20 sterilization centers in the city, out of which 16 are functional. Work will be done to make the sterilization program effective.
Mayor directed the officers to prepare a detailed action plan involving RWAs, dog lovers to make sterilization more effective. He said that along with ensuring good care of street dogs in the city, people would be relieved of that problem.
He said that the Kejriwal government will fulfill every promise. A world-class model will be implemented to rid Delhi of stray animals. The Mayor said that the postmortem report of the children is still awaited. It has not yet been confirmed whether the incident happened due to stray dogs or any other reason.
