Indian Chess Grand Master Viswanathan Anand has defeated World Champion Magnus Carlsen twice in the last one week. With this victory in the Norway Chess Tournament he scored 10 points. They have now reached number one in the table. He defeated Carlsen in 50 moves with Armageddon (Sudden Death Beat) in the fifth round of the classical category. Earlier on May 31, he had won from them in the seventh round of the blitz section of the same tournament. Armageddon was played in this classical class match after a draw in the regular 40 moves. In the classical category, players have to play Armageddon after the match is drawn.
In the classical category, Anand had won three consecutive games over France’s Maxime Vachier Lagrave, Bulgaria’s Veselin Topalov and China’s Hao Wang.

He had secured three points by winning over Anish Giri of the Netherlands. After this, he has slipped to the second position after losing to Anand. There are four more rounds left in the classical section of the tournament.

Five-time world champion Anand started the Norway Chess tournament by defeating domestic player Aryan Tiwary. The best players of chess are involved in this tournament. Anand’s victory is also special because India’s young sensation R Pragyanand has also defeated world champion Carlsen in a recent online blitz tournament.
This victory of Anand is important in terms of 44th Chess Olympiad
Anand’s victory becomes even more important in terms of the Chess Olympiad being held for the first time in India. The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 28 July to 10 August. So far, 343 players in the open category and 187 in the women’s category have been registered for this. The eyes of the whole world are on this tournament.
