Shaheen Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars beat Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans by one run to win the final of the Pakistan Super League. PSL i.e. Pakistan Premier was played in Lahore on Saturday night. Lahore team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was the hero of the match. He scored a half-century and also took 4 wickets. Batting first after winning the toss, Lahore gave Multan a target of 201 runs. In reply, Multan could only manage 199 runs in 20 overs.
Lahore won the PSL for the second time in a row. Last season too, they defeated Multan in the final.
Ihsanullah was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, while Shaheen Afridi, as expected, got the Player of the Match. Ihsanullah came into the limelight after bowling Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed by throwing the ball at a speed of 150.
Abdullah and Shaheen’s fifties
Electing to bat first, Lahore openers Fakhar Zaman and Mirza Baig gave their team a slow but steady start before Baig was dismissed in 4.3 overs. Lahore got 43 runs in the powerplay. Abdullah Shafiq came in at number three and propelled the innings with a brilliant 65 off 40 balls.
The Qalandars’ innings was marred by a fine finish from Shaheen Afridi, who powered Lahore to a challenging 200 in the first innings. Usama Mir got 3 wickets from Multan. Kushdil Shah, Ihsanullah and Anwar Ali got 1-1 success.
Riley Russo hit 52 runs in 32 balls
Chasing 200, Multan Sultans got off to a great start and scored more than 100 runs in 11 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. Riley Russo came in at number three. He played a brilliant inning by scoring 52 runs in 32 balls. Pollard and Tim David could not do much as the match came down to the last over, with Multan Sultans needing 13 runs to win the PSL final.
Rizwan’s team needed to hit a boundary off the last ball. Kushdil Shah was standing on strike. He could only take 2 runs on the ball to Zaman Khan. Needed 3 runs to draw. But, Shaheen ran him out.
Qalandars will get Rs 3.4 crore
The winning team Lahore Qalandars will get Rs 3.4 crore. The prize money of India’s Men’s Cricket League IPL is 20 crores.
