Mumbai Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell on Monday arrested businessman Riyaz Bhati in a case of extortion. The officers provided this information. He told that Riyaz Bhati, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was wanted in the extortion case registered at the Versova police station.
According to officials, a Versova-based businessman was threatened and demanded a car worth ₹30 lakh and cash worth ₹7.5 lakh. He said that Chhota Shakeel, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, and Salim Fruit, a relative of Shakeel, have also been named in the FIR, he said.
The Anti Extortion Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch arrested the accused from Andheri West. Riyaz Bhati will be presented in the court on Tuesday. Earlier, Bhati has been arrested in many cases including extortion, land grabbing and firing. Officials said that he had also tried to flee the country in 2015 and 2020 using fake passports.
