Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party over the murder of a 19-year-old receptionist girl in Uttarakhand, saying crime and arrogance have become synonymous with the ruling party. Relatives performed the last rites of the victim on Sunday after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured justice and protesters also lifted an eight-hour blockade on a major highway. The girl was allegedly murdered by the son of a BJP leader.
The body of receptionist Ankita Bhandari was found in the Chila canal near Rishikesh on Saturday. Six days before the body was found, Ankita’s parents came to know that she was missing from her room. Her employer has allegedly killed her.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Crime and arrogance have become synonymous with BJP. No embarrassment, no words, just silence, the Prime Minister’s message is clear – women should not expect anything from me. are related.
Protesters demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari, earlier on Sunday sat on a sit-in on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, which lasted for nearly eight hours, leading to a nine-km-long jam.
The victim used to work at a resort owned by Pulkit Arya, son of BJP leader Vinod Arya from Haridwar, which is located at Yamkeshwar in Pauri district. Pulkit and two other employees have been arrested in the case.
