A 58-year-old man, who is said to be a relative of cricketer Suresh Raina, was killed and four of his family members were injured in the alleged robbery attack. Police gave this information on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar, a government contractor. Police said that the incident took place on the intervening night of August 19-20 in Thariyal village near Madhopur in Pathankot district of Punjab.
According to the police, three-four members of the 'Kale Kachachewala' gang, who came with the intention of robbery, attacked Ashok Kumar and his family members. At that time, they were all sleeping on the roof of the house. Ashok Kumar died on the spot due to head injury while four others were injured.
Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana confirmed Kumar's death. He says that he cannot confirm that he was a relative of cricketer Raina. Khurana said, "We are investigating the case." According to the police, the dacoits got trapped with some cash and jewelry.
Police say Kumar's 80-year-old mother Satya Devi, his wife Asha Devi, son Apin and Kaushal were injured. According to Pathankot Superintendent of Police Prabhjot Singh Virk, Satya Devi has been discharged from the hospital while others are undergoing treatment.
