The world’s largest vaccination campaign will begin on Saturday, with more than three lakh health workers given Covid-19 vaccine supplements on the first day in India. The Prime Minister’s Office said that it will be the world’s largest vaccination program covering the entire country and all preparations have been made for its introduction on the principles of public participation.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan reviewed the preparations for the nationwide vaccination campaign and reviewed the special Kovid-19 control room built in the premises of Nirman Bhavan of the Ministry of Health. The Health Ministry said in a statement that vaccine supplements will be given to the priority group people in a phased manner. Vaccines will be given to health workers working in government and private sector including ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) personnel in this phase.
States and Union Territories have been asked to keep 10 percent doses safe and to vaccinate 100 people in a session a day. A call center-1075 has also been created to answer questions related to the Kovid-19 pandemic, vaccination initiation and Kovin software.
According to the government, first one crore health workers, about two crore personnel working on the advance front and then those above 50 years of age will be given vaccine supplements. In the later phase, people below the age of 50 will be seriously ill vaccinated. The government will bear the cost of vaccination on health workers and advance personnel. All the states and union territories have completed preparations for vaccination.
In Delhi, Kovid-19 vaccine will be given to a doctor, a nurse and a cleaning worker at LNJP Hospital in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Vaccination campaign of Kovid-19 will start at 81 centers in the national capital.
In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will start a vaccination campaign from a center at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that vaccination will be done at nine centers in Mumbai. Pune Mayor Muralidhar Mohol told that 800 health workers will be given vaccine doses in the city on the first day of the vaccination campaign.
Some others, including medical superintendents of government hospitals in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, will be given the first dose of vaccine and more than 16,000 health workers will be vaccinated during the campaign. In Assam, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma informed that 6,500 out of 1.9 lakh health workers will be vaccinated on the first day.
