Kovona, the first vaccine of Corona in the country, has been developed by Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech. It has been created in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology, Pune. Permission has been received from Drug Controller General of India to conduct 'Covaxine' trial on humans. The vaccine has received approval after the pre-clinical trial was successful. Its trial on humans in the country will start from next month.
Vaccine prepared in Hyderabad's Gnome Valley
According to a statement issued by pharma company Bharat Biotech, the vaccine has been developed at the BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) High Containment Facility in Gnome Valley, Hyderabad. The Drug Controller General of India, Central Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have given permission for starting the first and second phase of human trials.
