The central government has taken a sudden U-turn on vaccine availability amid the threat of Corona Delta + variant in the country. The government has told in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that till December this year, it will get only 135 crore doses of corona vaccine. Earlier in May, when the shortage of vaccine came to the fore across the country, the government had claimed that by December 31, the country would have more than 216 crore doses.
What was said on May 13?
Earlier on May 13, VK Paul, member of NITI Aayog, made a promising announcement. Paul had told that from August to December this year, 216 crore doses of the vaccine would be prepared. Any vaccine that has been approved by the FDA or WHO will be allowed to come to India.
What is the difference with this claim?
Last time the government had informed about the availability of Covishield, Covaxin, Bio-E Subunit Vaccine, Zydus Cadila DNA, Novavax, Bharat Biotech Nasal Vaccine, Genova Biopharma and Sputnik-V, but in the affidavit filed on the previous day, the government has given only Covishield, Covaxin, Bio-E subunit vaccine, Zydus Cadila DNA and Sputnik-V.
Coveshield-Covaxin dosage also reduced
The government had said in May that between August and December, we would have 75 crore doses of Coveshield and 55 crore doses of Covaxin. In this affidavit, their dosage has also been reduced to 50 crores and 40 crores. At the same time, the availability of Sputnik-V has also been reduced from 15.6 crores to 10 crores.
188 crore doses needed
The government told the Supreme Court that the population of above 18 years in the country is about 93 to 94 crores. In such a situation, 186 to 188 crore doses will be needed to apply both doses of the vaccine to this population. Of these, 51.6 crore doses will be given to the states by 31 July 2021. After which only 135 crore doses will be needed to vaccinate the entire population.
Vaccine soon for children aged 12 to 18 years
The Center also informed about the vaccine for children in the age group of 12 to 18 years in an affidavit to the Supreme Court on Friday. According to this, another indigenous vaccine is going to be entered soon after Covaxin. Indian pharma company Zydus Cadila’s vaccine will be available soon for the age group of 12 to 18 years.
According to NewsBust, in response to the questions raised by the Supreme Court on May 31 regarding Kovid management, the Ministry of Health has given a 375-page affidavit. The court had questioned the government regarding the preparations for the vaccination of people of all ages.
Initially there will be 3 doses of vaccine
The vaccine of Zydus Cadila will be of 3 doses in the initial phase. But, in the coming time, work is also going on to make it a two-dose vaccine like other vaccines. Highly placed sources in the government say that the price of the vaccine has not been decided yet, but it will be economical. The company has a capacity to manufacture one crore doses per month.
