In the match played on Thursday in the Women’s Premier League, Delhi Capitals had to face defeat against Mumbai Indians. But Delhi Capitals fielder Jemima Rodrigues, running in the mid-off, jumped forward and caught the catch of Haley Mathews and reminded of Jonty Rhodes. Former cricketer Akash Chopra, who was commenting on this brilliant catch of Jemima, also praised it. He termed it as the best catch of the tournament.
Alice Capps threw the second ball of the 12th over of Mumbai’s innings outside the off stump. Hayley Mathews wanted to hit it big. But the ball did not hit his bat properly and the ball went towards mid-off. Whereas, Jemima, standing towards the deep, came running and as soon as the ball started coming down, she made a spectacular dive and took the catch. Hayley Mathews returned after scoring 32 off 31 balls. However, Haley’s dismissal did not affect the Mumbai team. At that time the team needed 29 runs and more than 50 balls were to be bowled.
Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets
Actually Delhi Capitals decided to bat first after winning the toss. Batting first, the entire team of Delhi Capitals got out after scoring 105 runs in 18 overs. Captain Meg Lanning scored the highest 43 runs from Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, Saika Ishaq, Haley Mathews and Isabel Wong took 3-3 wickets from Mumbai Indians. While Pooja Vastrakar got 1 wicket.
65 run partnership between Mathews and Yastika
While chasing the target of 106 runs, the team of Mumbai Indians achieved it by losing 2 wickets. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews got Mumbai off to a blistering start. Both added 47 runs without losing a wicket in 6 overs of the powerplay. Mathews in the first 3 overs and Yastika batting aggressively in the later overs.
There was a partnership of 65 runs in both. Mathews added 22 runs in it, while Yastika was dismissed after scoring 41 runs in 32 balls. After Mathews’ dismissal, Natalie Seaver led the innings with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Seaver remained unbeaten on 23 and Kaur scored 11 runs and got the team victory with 30 balls to spare. Tara Norris and Alice Capsy got one wicket each from Delhi.
