Welcome to Career Funda!
real superman
Do you know who are the real supermen and superwomen of the world?
Yes, These are the people who do any kind of studies along with the job. It is a very difficult task, not everyone can manage it.
Are you in this situation too? If so, then today’s Career Fund is for you!
why two big things together
Why do you have to study along with a job? There are two reasons – (1) first, financial and (2) second, not being satisfied with the present job.
If you like the work you are doing at present, then you might not think of preparing for competitive exams because you see a secure and happy future ahead. Yes, you can take further education for promotion in your own field, but it is not as tiring as preparing for competitive exams, because it is the subject of your field.
Let us see what are the things to be kept in mind while managing this difficult balance.
8 Power Tips to Balance
1) Coordination
The basic mantra is to coordinate in the field of study and job.
A. That is, try to earn money by working in such a field, which helps you in preparing for competitive exams.
B. For example, if you are preparing for SSC and study Maths along with it, then teaching Maths will prove useful in SSC preparation. Or if you are preparing for civil services, then content development, blog writing, notes preparation related to it in various coaching classes will benefit your preparation and also generate income.
2) Clarity
Private jobs in India are notorious for over-working hours.
A. In such a situation, if that work is not a part of your long term planning, then it is better to clearly tell your employer how many hours (4, 6 or 8) you can give to work.
B. By making this clear, it is also easier for the employer to choose which responsibility to give you.
3) Time Planning
Since you are preparing for the exam along with the job, so assume that you have less time for preparation than other candidates. Planning is very important for you.
A. First of all, the more time you can gain, the better, so start preparing early. That is, if other candidates give 8 months to prepare for that exam, then you should start preparing for it 16 months or 12 months in advance.
B. After studying the syllabus and previous year’s question papers thoroughly, divide the entire syllabus into small pieces and make a weekly time-table for it. Keep a diary, make a to-do list.
4) Know your limits
Do any work only after recognizing your abilities.
A. Breaking the comfort zone is a good thing, but don’t be daring.
B. It means to say take that much load so that your mental and physical health does not get affected.
C. Understand and respect your limits, and make sure you don’t stress yourself out more than you should. If you fall sick, the loss will be much more.
5) Use time intelligently
Avoid time wasters like TV, Facebook, chatting with friends etc.
A. Also find innovative ways to save time like newspaper can be read in toilet for 20-25 minutes.
B. And the time between going home and going to work is perfect for going over things in your mind.
C. Keep thinking that which two such tasks can be done simultaneously like some mechanical work i.e. listening to an audio book while running the washing machine etc. Take full advantage of weekends and other holidays.
6) Find alternatives
See if full-time work is necessary, whether part-time or weekend work could solve your financial problems instead. If you can find such an option then it will give you more time to prepare for the exam.
7) Take enough rest, give priority to health (Health is Wealth)
Staying healthy both physically and mentally is important! Sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours. It will strengthen your immune system, benefit your memory and help you deal with stress better. Also, be sure to eat nutritious food throughout the day to keep your energy up. Doing yoga or light exercise for 15-20 minutes is also useful.
8) Take advantage of technology (Use technology to the fullest)
Class notes are required. Avoid writing down every single word. Find your own way of abbreviating words and phrases. Buy a voice recorder, you can record the voice of the class and use it later.
I hope my suggested solutions will help you to manage studies along with this job.
