Xi Jinping made a three-day visit to Moscow to showcase his role as a peacemaker in the Ukraine conflict. He demanded to advance the peace talks plan in this direction, which received a cold response from the US, the main ally of Ukraine. Xi’s visit to Russia since becoming China’s president for the first time in March 2013 has been described as a trip of “friendship, cooperation and peace”.
China said on Wednesday that President Xi’s recently concluded state visit to Russia was a “tour of friendship, cooperation and peace”. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that China is neutral in the Ukraine conflict and reiterated that Beijing “has no selfish motive on the Ukraine issue, does not remain a mute spectator … or take advantage of this opportunity”. Not picking up. Wang said, “President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia is a visit of friendship, cooperation and peace, which has received a positive response from the international community.”
“China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine issue,” the spokesman said, referring to the 12-point peace proposal put forward by China calling for a ceasefire and talks. And Russia has expressed serious concern over NATO’s continued expansion of military-security ties with Asia-Pacific countries, which it says undermines regional peace and stability.
The statement said that both sides oppose specific alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, which would encourage such alliance politics in the region and lead to factional conflicts, which are clearly visible in the US, India, Australia, Japan This is in reference to the ‘Quad’ alliance and the ‘Aucus’ alliance of Australia, Britain and the US. Both sides noted that the US lives in a Cold War mindset and follows an Indo-Pacific strategy, which has a negative impact on peace and stability in the region.
China and Russia are committed to building an equitable, open and inclusive security system in the Asia-Pacific region that does not target any other country in order to maintain regional peace, stability and prosperity. The US, India and many other world powers are talking about the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China’s growing military presence in the resource-rich region. China has a dispute over the border area in the South and East China Seas. Beijing has also made great strides in militarizing its man-made islands in the past few years. Russia reiterated its commitment to early resumption of peace talks on the Ukraine war, which was appreciated by China.
