Thoussen, a 1988 batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and is holding the additional charge of Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

In fact, the post of Director General of CRPF had fallen vacant after the retirement of 1986 batch IPS officer Kuldeep Singh on Friday.

At the same time, Manipur cadre (1988 batch) officer Anish Dayal Singh is currently working as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.

Thoussen’s retirement is scheduled for November next year, while Singh will retire in December 2024.

However, the order for the appointment of both the officers was issued by the Personnel Ministry after getting approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister.

It is worth noting that the CRPF with about 3.25 lakh personnel is considered to be the largest paramilitary force in the country. It is designated as the premier internal security force. The CRPF has been involved in operations in Left Wing Extremism-affected states as well as counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir Valley and in the Northeast.

The ITBP is primarily responsible for guarding the 3,488-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

SSB is the border force that guards the Indian borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

According to an official, Thoussen is expected to be given additional charge of the SSB until the new chief is announced by the government.
