The Supreme Court has asked the Punjab government and Mukhtar Ansari to give the custody of Ansari to UP for appearing before the UP in 10 cases related to murder, gangster act etc. Have given two weeks time to file an answer. The UP government has argued that serious allegations against Ansari are pending in UP. He has been in Punjab for two years in a “minor case”.
The UP government has said that either Ansari should be transferred to UP to face trial, or if the charge sheet is filed, the case of Punjab should be transferred to UP. UP alleged that no charge sheet has been filed in Punjab so far. Ansari is trying to “play with the federal structure” and misuse the provisions of the CRPC. Punjab also has to answer to Ansari’s medical condition.
In fact, in the last hearing, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to Ropar Jail Superintendent. The notice was issued by the Supreme Court on December 18 on the appeal of the UP government. On the Yogi government’s plan to introduce Mafia MLA Mukhtar Ansari in the case under consideration in the court, the police of Ropar district of Punjab and the Superintendent of Ropar Jail, after taking notice, sent an empty hand to the Ghazipur police, stating a plan to file an answer.
Punjab police argued that on the basis of the medical report of Mukhtar Ansari, he could not be sent to Uttar Pradesh. Due to illness, it is not possible for BSP MLA Mukhtar Ansari to travel long.
Ghazipur police team reached Ropar jail in Punjab after taking notice of Supreme Court. UP Police received a notice to Ropar Jail Superintendent, where the Jail Superintendent has asked to file a reply in the court. The Punjab Police refused to hand over Mukhtar Ansari to the Uttar Pradesh Police citing medical reports.
Mukhtar Ansari was shifted from Banda to Ropar Jail in Punjab before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He was brought to Ropar Jail in a case of extortion registered in Punjab.
