Important information related to the case:
This disease is called ‘Black Fungus’ or Mucoramychosis, which starts from the nose, spreads from the eyes to the brain. In this disease, some serious patients have to remove their eyes to save their lives.
Starting with itching from the nose, this disease spreads slowly to the eye, the eye is red, swollen, less visible. If this disease goes to the brain, then the risk of death is up to 80%.
According to experts, this fungus stays in the nose for 2-3 days and then progresses towards the eye. In such a situation, if the nose bleeds or there is even a slight problem in seeing, then the Corona patient should contact the doctor immediately. The battle of black fungus infection after Kovid is even more deadly.
In the BMC big hospital ‘Sion’ in Mumbai, 30 patients of black fungus have been found in a month and a half. Of these, 6 died and 11 patients had to remove one eye. In Gujarat too, 50 to 60 such patients have been found in cities like Surat and Ahmedabad.
Mumbai’s doctor Suhas Chaudhary says that some patients had had Kovid earlier. When he was admitted, his sugar was very high. The kidney was also affected. Because of this, his eye completely deteriorated due to mucomycosis.
If the treatment is not received in such cases for a long time, then this disease goes on to the patients’ brains. There is a very high risk of death in it. 30 patients of black fungus were found in Sion Hospital.
Dr. Renuka Bradu, ENT Head of Department of Sion Hospital, said that we have seen 30 patients in the last one and a half months. Out of these, 11 patients had to remove one eye. A patient is 47 years old, had to remove both his eyes.
Mumbai’s ENT Specialist Dr. Mayashankar Vishwakarma said, “Kovid patients are diabetic, who have low immunity and if these people are taking steroid, then it is very important to be cautious.”
Doctors say that it is dangerous for patients to take steroid at home by themselves due to fear of covid patients or corona. This reduces the immunity level of the patient. This is causing more fungal infections.
Mumbai’s ENT Specialist Dr. Aakriti Desai said that doctors confirm it through the nose through a test, then give an anti-fungal injection. If the infection reaches the eyes, then surgery is also needed. If the infection is severe, then the entire eye may have to be removed.
