Thimphu:

Bhutan is a small country in Asia. It lives life on the basis of moral values away from materialism and remains happy. Bhutan has been included in the world’s poorest countries for a long time, but now soon this country will leave the club of the poorest countries. The Himalayan state Bhutan is famous for the Gross National Happiness Index (GHI). Due to this, the condition of the country has improved.

On December 13 this year, Bhutan will become the seventh country to leave the band of least developed countries established by the United Nations in 1971. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lotay Tshering gave this information to the news agency AFP at the LDC (Lowest Developed Countries) summit that ended in Doha on Thursday. He said, “We are watching it with great respect and pride. We are not nervous at all.”

Bangladesh, Nepal, Angola, Laos, Solomon Islands and Sao Tome are scheduled to move out of the Least Developed Countries band by the end of 2026, along the lines of Bhutan.

GHI came into force in 1972
In 1972, Emperor Jigme Singye Wangchuck of Bhutan implemented the Gross Happiness Index instead of GDP. Here it is the responsibility of all the ministries to solve the problems of the people and work to raise the standard of living.

Happiness index in Bhutan is measured on 4 basis:
-Protection of cultural values
-Protection of environment
-continuous development
– better administration

Internet was entered in 1999
Internet and television were allowed in Bhutan only in 1999. For the first time in 1970, a foreign tourist was allowed to come here. Even now the authorities keep a close watch on foreign influence. Smartphones and bars are now commonplace in the capital Thimphu. Youth are in abundance in the population here. They have readily accepted social media. Because of this, there has been a boom in street fashion and politics is being discussed more openly.
