West Bengal Assembly Elections AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also entered the political battle. Encouraged by the good performance of AIMIM in Bihar, Owaisi has announced to contest the Bengal Assembly elections. Owaisi is negotiating a possible alliance with Maulvi Abbas Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif. Siddiqui has recently formed an organization called the Indian Secular Front (ISF).

The Matiaburj seat in Kolkata is minority-dominated and comes under the Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha seat, which is the parliamentary constituency of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee. The ruling party Trinamool Congress has expressed a strong reaction to the Owaisi rally. Senior TMC leader Saugata Roy said, “AIMIM is nothing but a proxy of the BJP. Owaisi is well aware that more Muslims are Bengali-speaking and will not support him. Muslims in Bengal stand firmly with Mamata Banerjee.” ”
