The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can announce the schedule of the remaining 31 matches of the 14th season of IPL today. Also, it can also decide to shift the T20 World Cup to be hosted by India to UAE and Oman. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given BCCI time till June 28 to decide on the World Cup.

IPL was suspended on May 4 due to Corona
This year IPL 2021 started in India from 9th April. In the mid-season, Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals, Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakraborty of KKR, CSK’s bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and batting coach Michael Hussey were found to be corona infected. In such a situation, the IPL was suspended on May 4 after 29 matches. Now there are 31 matches left in the league.

According to media reports, the remaining matches of the IPL can be played in the UAE from September 19. The final is likely to be held on October 15. A day after this i.e. from October 17, the T20 World Cup can also be played in the UAE itself. The title match of this 16-team tournament can be held on November 14.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said – World Cup can be shifted to UAE
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said on Saturday that the T20 World Cup may be shifted from India to the UAE due to the Corona epidemic in the country. We are keeping a close watch on these situations. The safety and health of our players is of utmost importance to us. A decision regarding the tournament will be taken soon.

UAE may shift T20 World Cup for 3 reasons

  • Due to the suspension of IPL, it is also difficult to have a World Cup in India. BCCI had selected 9 venues in India for this ICC tournament. ICC officials could not come to India in April to inspect it due to Corona. In April and May, the second wave of corona in India was at its peak. Now the third wave is also expected to arrive at the end of the year. In such a situation, it is very difficult to have IPL and T20 World Cup in India.
  • The ICC has written to the Indian board many times to get tax exemption from the Government of India for the T20 World Cup. BCCI has not been able to do anything in this matter so far. At the same time, the country had to face a lot of economic loss due to Corona, in such a situation, the central government is not seen in the mood to give exemption. In this situation BCCI can shift the World Cup to UAE.
  • It does not seem possible to conduct IPL in India between Corona. In such a situation, this league is bound to be out of the country. In such a situation, if BCCI organizes the T20 World Cup in India, then the players will have to travel a lot, which is not possible between Corona. Bio-bubble protocol is to be followed. In such a situation, the Indian board is in the mood to organize the World Cup in UAE itself, right after the IPL.

In which format can the T20 World Cup be held?

  • The first round of T20 World Cup will be played between 8 teams in two groups. There will be 12 matches in this. Out of these 4 teams (Top-2 teams of both the groups) will qualify for Super-12.
  • These 8 teams are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman and Papua New Guinea. The matches of these two groups can be held in UAE and Oman.
  • The Super-12 round is likely to start from October 24. In this, 12 teams in 2 groups will play 30 matches. These matches can be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
  • Four of the 12 teams will be the first round qualifiers and the rest will be the top-8 teams in the ICC World Rankings. This will be followed by three playoff matches, with two semi-finals and one final.

Suspense on foreign players playing in the second phase of IPL
There is suspense on foreign players playing in the remaining matches of IPL. England Cricket Board Managing Director Ashley Giles has already said that his players will not be able to go to UAE for the second phase of the IPL. During this, England has to play series with many countries. In such a situation, many English players including Oen Morgan, Josh Butler will not be able to play.

At the same time, Australia team will also play home series with Sri Lanka. Whereas New Zealand has to play with Pakistan. On the other hand, South Africa has to play in the home series with the Netherlands. Players from Afghanistan and Bangladesh will also accompany the national team.

2500 crores will be there if the tournament is canceled. the loss of
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said in an interview to The Telegraph that he is not in a hurry for the tournament at the moment. A decision will be taken on this gradually. He said that if the IPL could not be held this year, then the BCCI would suffer a loss of up to Rs 2500 crore.
