Jat leaders of Western Uttar Pradesh are going to meet today in the house of Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan, amid farmers’ agitation against the agricultural laws of the Center. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Vice President Saudan Singh will also be present in the meeting. The strategy will be discussed on how to remove resentment among the Jats in Western UP about the farmers’ movement.
A meeting was held at the BJP headquarters on Tuesday night in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda, in which Jat leaders from UP, Rajasthan and Haryana took part. In Tuesday’s meeting, MPs and MLAs were asked to go among the farmers and fight the propaganda about the agricultural laws.
The number of farmers agitating on the Ghazipur border is continuously decreasing, but is this a well thought out strategy?
All Khap, Panchayats etc. have been asked to contact. It has been said in the meeting that opposition to the agricultural law is not an issue, but this ideological battle is going on. BJP is particularly concerned about Jat votes in western Uttar Pradesh because Jats have been fully supporting the BJP for the last three elections. Jat votes are very important in about 40 assembly seats. UP has assembly elections next year and the BJP does not want to take the risk of offending the Jats.
Blog: Is the government preparing a toolkit for repression?
In Haryana, the BJP is in the government along with the Janta Janata Party with a strong penetration in the Jats. There is tremendous pressure on JGP leaders from the Jat community to come out of the government. The BJP will work on a strategy to increase ground connectivity to counter it. Jats of western Uttar Pradesh are angry with Naresh Tikait’s tears. Tikait is constantly holding mahapanchayats in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to create an atmosphere against agricultural laws.
