Wasim Akram in his book described Salim Malik as a small minded person.
The players of the Pakistan cricket team make headlines for their external activities and rhetoric more than their exploits on the field. The former players there are also in the discussion about one or the other controversy. The latest case is related to former left arm fast bowler Wasim Akram and middle order batsman Salim Malik.
In his biography, Akram has accused Malik of harassing and insulting young players. Malik has now retaliated on this. Let’s know what is the whole matter…
Akram wrote- Malik used to take advantage of my junior
Akram has written in the recently released biography Sultan – When I made my debut for Pakistan in 1984, the behavior of Salim Malik, the legendary batsman of that time, was very bad. Akram has alleged that Malik used to get him to clean clothes and shoes. Apart from this, he also used to ask them to massage.
Akram has written- Malik was a selfish cricketer and had a small mind. He always thought of himself. They used to take advantage of me being junior.

Now Malik hit back
Salim Malik has responded to Akram’s allegations in the Pakistani media. Malik said- I called Akram to talk about this, but he did not pick up my call. If I was selfish, I would not have included Akram in the team under my captaincy. Doesn’t give him chances to bowl. I always tried to encourage him.
Malik did not give a direct answer on the allegation of getting the clothes washed. He said- If I asked him to wash clothes, he had to use the washing machine. There was no need for him to wash clothes by hand.
Malik has been banned for fixing
Salim Malik was also accused of match-fixing and the Pakistan Cricket Board banned him for life. Malik appealed against it, but got no concession from the board. Later a Pakistani court ended his ban. Nowadays he appears as a cricket expert in Pakistani media.
Akram also admitted to cocaine addiction
Akram made a sensational disclosure in his biography that he had become a cocaine addict after retirement. Akram has written- After retirement, I started taking cocaine on the advice of some friends. I initially thought that taking cocaine once or twice would not make me addicted, but soon I realized that I could not live without it. At that time, Akram’s first wife Huma was running ill. Later Huma passed away. After which Akram married an Australian woman.
Malik came to international cricket two years before Akram
Salim Malik made his international debut in 1982. At the same time, Akram played the first match for Pakistan in 1984. Malik scored 5768 runs in 103 Test matches in his career. He also scored 7170 runs in 283 ODIs.
Akram played 104 Tests and took 414 wickets. In ODIs, he played 356 matches and took 502 wickets. Akram became the first bowler in the world to take 500 wickets in ODI cricket. His record was later broken by Muttiah Muralitharan (534 wickets).
Akram and Malik have also played under each other’s captaincy. Malik played 11 Tests and 52 ODIs under Akram’s captaincy while Akram played 11 Tests and 27 ODIs under Malik’s captaincy.
