Earlier, in the midst of controversy over BBC’s documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Anil Antony had objected to the documentary. Expressing a different opinion from the stand of his party and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on this issue, Anil Antony wrote in a tweet, “Prefering the British broadcaster’s views to Indian institutions, will ‘undermine’ the country’s sovereignty.”
Despite large differences with BJP, I think those in 🇮🇳 placing views of BBC, a 🇬🇧 state sponsored channel with a long history of 🇮🇳 prejudices, and of Jack Straw, the brain behind the Iraq war, over 🇮🇳 institutions is setting a dangerous precedence, will undermine our sovereignty.

Speaking to NewsBust, Anil Antony said, “He has no problem with anyone in the Congress party, including Rahul Gandhi, but in the 75th year of our independence, we should not allow foreigners or their institutions to undermine our sovereignty.” should.” His statement came on the same day when Rahul Gandhi, while talking to reporters in Jammu during his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, questioned the government’s efforts to prevent online sharing of the documentary in the country.
Rahul had said, “If you read our Vedas, Bhagavad Gita or Upanishads, you will see that it is written there that truth cannot be hidden. Truth always comes out. You can ban the press, suppress it. You can control institutions, you can use CBI, ED etc. but truth is truth. Truth shines differently, so no ban, suppression and intimidation will stop the truth from coming out .”
The comment by Anil Antony, who handles the digital communications of the Kerala unit of the Congress, is in stark contrast to the party’s stand in Kerala, where various party units have announced screenings of the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Significantly, the Central Government on Friday ordered the blocking of tweets sharing a BBC documentary criticizing PM Narendra Modi. The tweets through which the YouTube link of the BBC documentary has been shared have also been blocked. The Ministry of External Affairs had described this documentary as part of such propaganda, which reflects the colonial mindset.
