Acquisition of 19867.8 MHz spectrum in 900, 1800, 2100, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands for Rs 43,084 crore, the spectrum will be secured for 20 years.

In the latest 5G spectrum auction conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, Airtel has performed brilliantly by meeting the expectations of its customers. Airtel is going to provide the best customer experience by securing 19867.8 MHz spectrum in 900, 1800, 2100, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands. The company is all set to lead India’s 5G revolution by acquiring this spectrum for 20 years for Rs 43,084 crore.

With the latest acquisition, Airtel now has the widest mobile broadband footprint in the country, making it the best-placed to launch the 5G revolution in India. Airtel has adopted a smart and prudent strategy in spectrum acquisition in the recent past. The company has the largest pool of low and mid band spectrum (sub GHz/1800/2100/2300 band), which can provide excellent 5G coverage with great capability at 3.5 GHz. The 26 GHz band will enable Airtel to install 100 times more capacity at a lower cost.

Airtel already has the best pool of spectrum and after the recent acquisition, the company will not need to spend any physical amount on spectrum for many years to come. In addition, this spectrum acquisition will also help Airtel significantly reduce the payment for spectrum usage charges (SUC) and eliminate adverse SUC arbitrage.

benefits for customers
Airtel is now planning to launch 5G services from major cities in every part of the country. Since a large percentage of devices are now 5G enabled, 5G technology is waiting for customers. Airtel is confident that customers will love the superfast 5G experience and this will lead to a rapid increase in the company’s subscriber base. In addition, Airtel’s strong presence in the enterprise segment will also enhance Airtel’s dominance in multiple industrial use cases, further strengthening Airtel’s leadership in the B2B market.

Every customer needs will be met
Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO, Bharti Airtel said, “Airtel is pleased with the results of the 5G auction. This spectrum acquisition in the latest auction has been part of our prudent strategy to buy the best spectrum assets at the lowest cost. This will help us drive innovation and meet the needs of every discerning customer seeking the best experience in India. We are confident that we will be able to deliver the best 5G experience in India in terms of coverage, speed and latency.

This will allow us to replace the default rules for both our B2C and B2B customers. 5G technology is the revolution that can transform India’s manufacturing, services and many other sectors. We are fully committed to the Government’s vision of Digital India and will continue to ensure that India becomes a lighthouse for the world in terms of technology.

Airtel always ahead in innovation
Airtel has always been at the forefront of India when it comes to the experiments of the 5G revolution. Airtel is the first telecom company in the country to successfully test 5G in the year 2018. The company demonstrated its dominance by conducting India’s first rural 5G trial on the 700 MHz band in Kolkata.

Apart from this, Airtel was also the first to operate the Bosch Manufacturing Execution System with 5G captive private network.

Also, Airtel also tested India’s first 5G connected ambulance in partnership with Apollo Hospitals. The custom-designed state-of-the-art 5G connected ambulance was equipped with the latest medical equipment, patient monitoring applications and telemetry equipment, capable of transmitting patient health data to the hospital in real time.

Additionally, Airtel has been at the forefront of showcasing 5G capabilities, including India’s first 5G cloud gaming demonstration and the first live Airtel 5G powered hologram (175* replayed). Using state-of-the-art immersive video technology over a high-speed 5G test network, Airtel recreated Kapil Dev’s famous 175 not out experience against Zimbabwe during the 1983 Cricket World Cup.

It can be said that having topped every 5G test in India, Airtel has fulfilled its resolve to deliver a unique customer experience by bagging 19867.8 MHz spectrum in the 5G auction. Customers who already have 5G enabled equipment in their possession have been waiting for 5G connectivity for a long time and with Airtel this wait is going to end soon. After the news of acquiring 19867.8 MHz spectrum, Airtel customers are expecting a great experience soon.
