On the occasion of completion of one year of completion of acquisition of Air India by the Tata Group, the airline on Friday said that it is fulfilling the historic order of new aircraft. Airline chief Campbell Wilson said on the occasion that the company has made remarkable progress in the aviation sector. In a message to employees as Air India 2.0 enters its second year, Wilson said the road ahead is going to be challenging and stressed that what will define us more than success will be acknowledging our flaws. The airline has set a five-year roadmap for its transformation under ‘Vihaan.AI’ which will take various steps and the company will invest $400 million to transform the interior of its wide-body aircraft fleet. However, in recent weeks, the airline has faced trouble due to incidents of poor passenger behavior on two international flights and the airline was fined by aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Giving information about its major initiatives, Air India on Friday said that it is finalizing a historic order for new aircraft to accelerate future growth. It was informed that the airline has engaged more than 1,200 professionals for various functions to enhance its capabilities.
In his message, Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, said, “While working for betterment, the airline has not planned the merger of Air India Express and Air Asia, or the merger of Vistara and Air India, or the new infotech center or aviation hub.” Has not hesitated to take other ambitious steps like establishment of Academy.
Air India said that in the last one year, its total number of aircraft in operation has increased by 27 percent to 100, 16 new international routes have been started or announced, average daily revenue has doubled. And the human resources in call centers have also more than doubled and these are among its many initiatives.
The Tata group had taken over the loss-making Air India from the government on January 27 last year.
“Happy Friday guys… happy anniversary,” Wilson said in the message. This is the first anniversary of Air India coming back to Tata.
