Admission to Jawaharlal Nehru University will be done through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the new session (2022-23). The JNU administration has taken this decision in the Academic Council meeting held on 12 January. According to Admissions Director Jayant K Tripathi, the proposal to adopt CUET received overwhelming support in the meeting.
The burden of entrance examination of many universities will be reduced
During the deliberations in the Academic Council, a large number of members including Deans of Schools, Center Presidents and external members of the Council emphasized that CUET will provide a level playing field to deserving students from across the country. This will reduce the burden of entrance exams of many universities on them. Since 2019, JNU has been conducting entrance exams through NTA at various centers across the country to admit students to its various programs in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
Teachers and student organizations protested
The university, in its academic council meeting held in March last year, had decided that whenever the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts CUET, the university will be a part of it. However, teachers’ organizations and student organizations have opposed the new decision of the university.
