The CEO of Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawala, urged those countries to wait for the corona virus vaccine covidshield. CII itself is producing the ‘KovidShield’ vaccine, developed by Oxford University and the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca. Adar Poona Wala wrote this morning via his Twitter account that dear countries and governments, as you all are waiting for the supply of KovidShield, I request you all to be patient.
Dear countries & governments, as you await #COVISHIELD supplies, I humbly request you to please be patient, @SerumInstIndia has been directed to prioritize the huge needs of India and along with that balance the needs of the rest of the world. We are trying our best.

According to Poonawalla, the Serum Institute of India has been instructed to cater to the larger needs of the country on a priority basis as well as to balance with the needs of other countries of the world. Let us tell you that KovidShield is one of the two vaccines, which is recognized by the country’s drug regulatory body DCGI.
Speaking to NewsBust last month, Adar Poonawala said that India remains a priority when it comes to vaccine supply. He had told that in the next two to three weeks about 30 countries are going to reach KovidShield. He made it clear that vaccine exports would not have any effect on the country’s supply.
