Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the Serum Institute in Pune on Saturday.

Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawala addressed the press conference at 7 pm. He said that we will work with a self-reliant India in mind. Seroma Institute’s Corona Vaccine Coveshield is currently in the trial phase. Prime Minister Modi has also visited Pune today to visit the Serum Institute.

SII has partnered with UK company AstraZeneca and Oxford University for the production of CoveShield. SII produces the highest number of vaccines in the world. Experts and government officials believe that this vaccine will be available first in India.

Trials of KoviShield’s last phase have been done in two ways. In the first it was seen to be 62% effective, while in the second it was over 90%. On average, effectiveness has been around 70%. SII executive director Suresh Jadhav recently claimed to have started production of the vaccine.

From January, 5-6 crore vaccines will be made every month. Stocks of 8 to 10 crore doses will be ready by January. Supply will be started on getting approval from the government.
