K Lakshminarayanan, another Congress MLA, has resigned as the party’s MLA. Now the strength of the ruling party in the state is 13 and the number of opposition legislators is 14. The floor test is on 22 February.
The Congress government’s move to the Union Territory of Puducherry is almost certain. Just one day before the floor test, another Congress MLA, K Laxminarayanan, resigned as the party’s MLA. He submitted his resignation to Speaker VP Shivakozhundu. Now the strength of the ruling party in the state is 13 and the number of opposition MLAs is 14. In such a situation, the fall of the V Narayanasamy government is considered certain.
Number of Congress MLAs reduced from 15 to 9
Today, after the resignation of Laxminarayanan, the number of Congress MLAs in Puducherry Assembly has come down from 15 to 9. Earlier, those who resigned include MLAs A John Kumar, A Namassivam, Malladi Krishna Rao and E Thepayanthan. Apart from these, Congress MLA N Dhanvelu was disqualified for his involvement in anti-party activities. Among them, Namasivam and Thepayanthan have joined BJP, the rest of the leaders may also join BJP soon.
New LG has instructed floor test on 22 February
After the resignation of four MLAs, the state’s CM V Narayanasamy claimed to be in the majority. He also met Dr. Timilisai Sundararajan, the new Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Three days ago the Governor directed the Puducherry Assembly to be held on 22 February. Instructions have been given to conduct floor test by 5 pm. The tenure of the government here is to be completed on 8 June. Assembly elections will be held in the state in April-May this year. However, the date is not yet set.
Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi was removed four days ago.
The central government removed Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi four days ago. In place of him, Telangana Governor Dr. Timilisai Sundararajan was made LG of Puducherry. The special thing is that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had visited the state for two days amid political turmoil, but he could not save the party from harm.
