The Union Finance Ministry has given a big blow to the employees and pensioners under the Central Government. The Finance Ministry said that from July 1, central employees will not get the enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) and pensioners will get Dearness Relief (DR). The Finance Ministry clarified that no office memorandum has been issued regarding the implementation of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief. In April last year, the Finance Ministry had suspended the payment of increased dearness allowance and dearness relief till July 2021.

The order circulating in social media was called fake

The Finance Ministry said in a social media post that nowadays a fake document is circulating in the social media. It has been claimed in this document that DA for central employees and DR for pensioners is being reintroduced. The Finance Ministry said that this office memorandum is fake. No such Office Memorandum has been issued by the Government of India. The order dated April 23 states that no arrears will be paid during the period from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

no statement about the meeting

The Finance Ministry, National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) met on 26 June regarding the implementation of DA-DR from 1 July 2021 and arrears arrears. However, no statement has been issued by the Ministry of Finance or JCM regarding this meeting.

DA-DR not received since 18 months

The Center had stopped the payment of DA and DR with effect from 1 January 2020 due to Kovid-19. Due to this, 18 months DA-DR has not been paid to central employees and pensioners from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. However, DA-DR is being paid at the rate prior to January 1, 2020. The DA for central employees and pensioners is increased every 6 months. The Center has increased DA by 4% in January 2020, 3% in June 2020 and 4% in January 2021.

DA will reach 28%

At present, the central employees are getting dearness allowance at the rate of 17%. Adding the increase made in the last three installments, it becomes 28%. If the central government decides to pay enhanced dearness allowance with effect from July 1, 2021, it will have to pay dearness allowance at the rate of 28%. Pensioners under the Central Government will also be benefited by the decision to pay the increased dearness allowance. At present, there are about 52 lakh employees and 60 lakh pensioners under the central government.
