After 17 years, England came to play Test in Pakistan and scored 657 runs losing all wickets in the first innings. After a good start on the first day, it was expected that England would surpass the record for most runs scored in an innings of Test cricket, but in the very first over of the second day, captain Ben Stokes was bowled and returned to the pavilion.
Sri Lanka holds the record for scoring the most runs in an innings in Test cricket. Sri Lanka had declared their first innings for 952 runs against India in a Test match in Colombo in 1997. This test match was a draw.
Earlier, by the end of the first day’s play on Thursday, England had scored 506 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 75 overs. Four of its batsmen scored centuries on the first day. Both their openers Jack Crawley scored 122 and Ben Duckett scored 111 runs. There was a partnership of 233 runs between the two. Oli Pope, who landed at number 3, and Harry Brook, who landed at number 5, also scored centuries. Pope was dismissed for 108 off 104 balls. Brook scored 153 off 116 balls.
Lost 6 wickets for 151 runs
England, who lost 4 wickets for 506 on the first day, lost the second 6 wickets for 151 runs. England did not start well on the second day. In the very first over on the second day, Naseem Shah bowled Ben Stokes and sent him to the pavilion. He scored 41 runs off 18 balls. Stokes also hit a six off Naseem Shah before being bowled. After the dismissal of Stokes, Livingstone and then Brook, who remained unbeaten on 101 on Thursday, were also dismissed by adding 52. After his dismissal, no other batsman could score a half-century. Will Jacks 30 and Ollie Robinson were dismissed for 37 runs.

Zahid Mahmood was the most successful bowler from Pakistan. He took 4 wickets for 235 runs in 33 overs. Naseem Shah took 3 wickets for 140 runs in 24 overs. Apart from this, Mohammad Ali got 2 wickets and Haris Rauf got one wicket each.
