Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), more than half of the account holders, about 55 percent are women. This data is found from the information sought under Right to Information (RTI). However, no data has been given regarding deposits in the accounts of women and men.
In the reply given by the government to Madhya Pradesh’s information authority activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur, it was stated that till September 9, 2020, there were a total of 40.63 crore accounts under PMJDY. Of these, 22.44 crore accounts were of women and 18.19 crore accounts were of men.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Finance, by the beginning of September in the current financial year, deposits in these PMJDY accounts increased by 8.5 percent to about 1.30 lakh crore. It has been said in the information that the total deposits in PMJDY accounts as on April 1, 2020 was Rs 1,19,680.86 crore, which increased by 8.5 percent to Rs 1,29,811.06 crore by September 9, 2020.
However, the Finance Ministry has said that no separate details of deposits have been kept in the accounts of female and male account holders. On the question of zero balance or balance in PMJDY accounts, the Finance Ministry said that till September 9, 2020, there were 3.01 crore accounts in which there was no money.
According to the data of PJDY on October 7, 2020, the total number of account holders is 40.98 crore. The amount deposited in these accounts is Rs 1,30,360.53 crore. Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana was started in August 2014 under the National Financial Inclusion Mission.
