Five people have died in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district for allegedly drinking poisonous liquor in the last three days. There is a ban on the sale of liquor and drinking of liquor in Bihar. Khelovan Manjhi, a member of the victim’s family, said on Saturday that people died after drinking alcohol in the Dargah village of Katra police station area. Many political leaders including BJP MLA also supported Manjhi’s claim. Senior Superintendent of Police Jayant Kant confirmed that five people had died in the village but they denied that the death was caused by drinking poisonous liquor.

The SSP, however, has suspended the police officer of Katra police station Sikandar Kumar after the incident. Kant said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons. District Collector Pranab Kumar, SSP and other senior officials reached the village on Saturday and met the families of the victims. BJP and RJD leaders went to the village to get information about the incident.
