Republic Day will be celebrated across the country on 26 January. Students participate in the parade held every year. The Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that a total of 321 students from four schools in Delhi and 80 folk artists from Kolkata will participate in the cultural program in the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath.
The ministry said in a statement that the artists have been selected from the Eastern Zonal Cultural Center in Kolkata and students have been selected from DTEA Senior Secondary School, Mount Abu Public School, Vidya Bharati School, Government Girls Senior Secondary School.
This year, the number of children and folk artists participating is 401, with more than 600 students taking part last year. The statement said, “102 students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School will present a program on the theme ‘Hum Fit To Bharat Fit’ inspired by the ‘Fit India Movement’ movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2019.”
It said that 127 children of DTEA Senior Secondary School would perform folk dances of Tamil Nadu in their traditional attire. It states that 92 students of Mount Abu Public School and Vidya Bharati School will participate in a program called “Aatmanirbhar Bharat: Vision of Self Reliant India”. He said, “Eighty folk artists from East Zonal Cultural Center will present folk dance bajasal from Kalahandi, Odisha.”
