At least one person was killed and several others were injured in a firearm carried out by police after protesters turned violent in northern Tripura. According to the police, action was taken after the agitators allegedly started throwing stones and blocking National Highway 8 in Panisagar city. This place is located 4 hours north of Agartala, the state capital.
Police have confirmed the death of at least one youth in a police firing on a group of people demonstrating in support of an indefinite bandh, or bandh. Many others were also injured, the police has given such information.
Local sources said that a local fire department employee was also allegedly killed, but the police have not yet confirmed his death.
Thousands of tribal Bru have been closed since 16 November to protest the central government’s decision to rehabilitate refugees.
